How to hook up a bugera btx 36000 to a SWR Goliath?
I have a bugera btx 36000 bass head and a SWR Goliath Sr 6 x 10 cab. For some reason the amp keeps cutting out, possibly overheating? I'm not sure how to equalize the ohms between the two to figure out what might be causing the problem. I'm a guitar player and my bass player doesn't know anything about it so I'm trying to help him out.
You are going to want to crank open the instruction manual to the Bugera and see what impedance (ohms) it can handle, and then check how many ohms are on the SWR Goliath (either read up, peek inside the cab, or use a multimeter set to IMPEDANCE (not Resistance) (OHMS).
Some amps can automatically adjust or match the impediance (ohms) between the amp and the cab... others you need to get it 100% matched by using a switch.
This is tube amp...and it needs to see either 2 ohms or 4 ohms load (according to Bugera spec sheet). A load higher or lower can and will fry the output transformer!
The good news : apparently the cab you used is 4 ohms...so everything should be ok.
Finally
2. Bugera isn't exactly known for having good quality control or good parts (but good sounds!), but they have good warranties and service and stand behind the things they sell. If it keeps overheating, and you are sure the ohms are right between the two things, send the Bugera back for repair / exchange / refund!
