Can I put my computer speakers in my car?
So, I have a pretty good set of Boston speakers, but they are for Computers. There is a small woofer and a few other speakers that would make great tweeters. Could I put those speakers into my car? And if so how do I connect them and make them play?
This would be more work than it's worth. Anything is possible if you're willing to do the work though. How are you planning on doing it? You can use the built in amps that the speakers have or you can take them apart and connect them directly to the stereo. If you use the built in amp, you'll have to get a transformer to turn the car's 13.5 volts to the voltage that the speakers require. You'll also have to connect it in a way that the power gets cut off when the stereo turns off or when you turn the key off. If the transformer runs all the time, it'll drain your battery when the car's not running. When they are connected, they might not be loud enough to be heard over the car engine. At home, it's pretty quiet but car engines and climate control systems can be pretty loud.
I don't think it's a good idea because computer speakers are a special product designed to amplify the sound from a computer and play it just loud enough for people sitting in front of the computer. Car speakers are compact speakers designed to provide full range sound (multiple speakers in one) and be loud enough to be heard over a car engine.
