how LONG is the minimum size for a JL Audio W7 subwoofer/subwoofer box?
someone gave me cubic feet but i honestly dont know how long that is. i have a 1980 chevy c10 and i plan to put a box behind the seat i dont really have that much space behind. im guessing the box only needs to be about 10-11 inches tall considering the sub is only 10 inches. width does not matter to me i have quite a bit of space back there. will 10-12 inches of length be good enough? money isnt really an issue so i can pay for a small custom box which cat even be that expensive anyways. not cheap though..

As I eluded to in my previous answer, I really don't think length and width will be the issue.
Depth is your problem. The 10w7 has a mounting depth of 8". For your box to be deep enough to house that sub it will have to have an external depth of 9.75". That is allowing for the 3/4" front wall (aka - baffle), the 7-1/4" depth of the sub, a 1" space between the magnet vent and the back wall, and the 3/4" back wall. Plus you'll need a little space between the cone of the sub and the back seat.
So -- assuming you have about 10.5" to spare behind the seat you can start to look at volume (as in air space) vs the dimensions of the box.
Ideally, the 10w7 needs 1.35 cubic feet of space to perform its best in a sealed enclosure. 1.35x1728 = 2333 cubic inches.
With your 10.5" external depth you'll have a 9" internal depth (allowing for thickness of the wood).
The cutout for the sub is 8.74". If you make the front face 11" that will give you a little over an inch at the top and bottom -- I wouldn't go smaller than that. With 11" external you have 9.5" internal.
So 9" deep x 9.5 tall = 85.5"
Now some basic algebra...Knowing h x d(epth) x width = volume
we can say 9" x 9.5" x width = 2333
or 85.5 x width = 2230
or width = 2230/85.5, so width = 26" (internal), 27.5 external.
In a standard cab truck, because the space behind the seat is sometimes less near the top than at the bottom it may be helpful to have a tapered shape to the box -- thinner at the top than at the bottom.
